Hours, Admission & Directions


Visit one of America’s great historic sites!

Walk-in tours of Cliveden are available in the spring, summer, and fall; no appointment is necessary. Tours are held from 12 PM to 4 PM, beginning on the hour, with the last tour at 3 PM. See below for a detailed schedule. 

Cliveden is closed to walk-in tours during the winter season, but appointments can be made to tour the site. Please contact Carolyn Wallace, Education Director, at 215-848-1777 ext. 3680 or cwallace@cliveden.org

Cliveden’s Carriage House and Visitor Center, Main House first floor, 1767 Kitchen Dependency and 1959 Kitchen are wheelchair accessible. 

2019 Walk-In Tour Schedule 

Spring & Summer:  May – August Thursday through Sunday, 12 PM to 4 PM. Tours begin on the hour; the last tour of the day begins at 3 PM
Fall: September – November Friday through Sunday, 12 PM to 4 PM. Tours begin on the hour; the last tour of the day begins at 3 PM
Winter Season Closing December – April (Appointments can be made for tours during this time.)
December & January Holiday Closings  Cliveden’s buildings and grounds are closed on the following holidays:

Getting Here

Cliveden is located at 6401 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19144. Our phone number is 215-848-1777.

Our 5.5 acre property takes up a full city block, within the perimeters of Germantown Avenue, Cliveden Street, Morton Street and Johnson Street, in Philadelphia’s Historic Northwest. On street parking is generally available. If there are any concerns about mobility, please contact Carolyn Wallace, our Education Director, at 215-848-1777 ext. 3680 for assistance. 

 

 

The Visitor’s Center and Carriage House is located on the corner of Morton and Cliveden StreetsWhen you walk through the gate, please come to the Carriage House (located on the left). 

 

 

 

 

Driving: 

Via the PA Turnpike (1-276): Take exit 333 and follow Germantown Pike east about 7 miles to Cliveden Street on the left.

Via the Schuylkill Expressway (1-76): Take exit 340 to Lincoln Drive. Turn right onto Johnson Street (third light) then left onto Germantown Avenue (fourth light). Take the first right onto Cliveden St.

Public Transportation:

SEPTA Bus: The 23 bus makes a stop directly in front of Cliveden on Germantown Avenue. Cliveden is also accessible on the H, XH, and 18 bus routes. 

SEPTA Regional Rail: Cliveden is a short walking distance from the R7 (Chestnut Hill East) line, Washington Lane stop, or the R8 (Chestnut Hill West) line, Upsal stop.
