Illuminating Hidden Lives: Black Stories of the Mid-Atlantic Region

Cliveden, the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and the African American Genealogy Group collaborated to digitize and interpret documents from the Chew Family Papers focusing on free and enslaved African Americans.

Insights from the African American Genealogy Group (AAGG)

Adrienne Whaley, Program Chair for the AAGG, and AAGG members shared their experience combing through the Chew Family Papers to extract information about enslaved families and communities owned by the Chew family in a series of posts. The posts discuss the goals of their project, discoveries made during their research, and some of the challenges working with primary source documents.
