Join American INSIGHT at Cliveden on November 19th to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their Free Speech Award Ceremony and the 300th birthday of Benjamin Chew, Sr. (1722-1810), who had Cliveden constructed in 1767.
The festivities begin at 1pm with a discussion about Benjamin Chew Sr., his life, and legacy. The Free Speech Film Festival Award Ceremony will begin at 2pm, highlighting the six Official Selection films for the 2022 festival. Additionally, the festival will honor the 2022 Free Speech Award Winner Dr. Eugene Marlow, director of the documentary Jazz in China. The film chronicles the 100-year story of how jazz—a democratic form of music through improvisation—exists and thrives in China. Attendees will view a full screening of Jazz in China and a question-and-answer session with Dr. Marlow. Following the Q+A, there will be a reception until 4:45pm.
The program will take place in the Cliveden Carriage House Visitor Center, located near the corner of Cliveden and Morton Streets. Tickets are on sale now through Eventbrite; a portion of the ticket is tax deductible. Sign up today!
