Learn about Edward Duffield on September 25th!
Join Germantown Friends School, Wyck, Stenton, Historic Germantown, and Cliveden for a free lecture with author and horologist Bob Frishman on the subject of his new book, Edward Duffield: Philadelphia Clockmaker, Citizen, Gentleman 1730-1803 (American Philosophical Society Press, 2024).
Duffield (1730–1803) was a colonial Philadelphia clockmaker, whose elegant brass, mahogany, and walnut timekeepers stand proudly in major American museums and collections. One of his clocks, made for the Haines family, still remains in the dining room at Wyck.
Frishman’s work is the first comprehensive study of Duffield, and it contextualizes the craftsman within complex networks of artisanry and exchange in colonial Philadelphia.
The entrance to Friends Free Library is at 5418 Germantown Avenue. There is on-street parking available in front of the library on Germantown Ave or in the St. Luke’s/GFS parking lot at Germantown and Coulter Sts.
