About the tour

Find out what Germantown was like on the eve of the Civil War during this walking tour. This program is offered in partnership with the Germantown Historical Society and the Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion.

The walking tour begins at Cliveden (6401 Germantown Avenue, 19144) and will end at the Ebenezer Maxwell Mansion (200 W. Tulpehocken Street, 19144), covering about two miles. Visitors should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a drink if needed. After the tour, visitors are welcome to stay at Ebenezer Maxwell for tours of the site or to walk back to Cliveden. Please plan travel and parking plan accordingly. In case of inclement weather, this tour will be rescheduled. For questions please contact our office at 215-848-1777.

General admission is $30; $20 for residents in the 19119 and 19144 zip codes. Advanced registration is suggested; use the form below to purchase a ticket. Tickets can also be purchased at the Cliveden Barn the day of (98 E. Cliveden Street, 19119).
