Celebrate Juneteenth in Historic Germantown!
Visit Cliveden on Saturday June 17 from 12pm – 4pm for free tours and exhibits of African American history as part of the Juneteenth Celebration in Historic Germantown.
From 12pm – 2pm learn about historic clothing and how it impacted the lives of African Americans seeking freedom from interpreter Nastassia Parker.
From 2:30pm to 4pm, Naimah McCloud of Denur Naiu Fashion will present a curated fashion show modeling and interpreting century clothing worn by Africans in Africa, American colonists, and enslaved and free African Americans circa 1600s to the 1900s. Mama Maisha Ongoza of the Sankofa Artisans Guild will narrate during the fashion show.

Nastassia Parker
Nastassia Parker began her lifelong passion as a historian and costumed interpreter at nine years old, when she first volunteered at George Washington’s Mount Vernon. Over the years, she has collaborated with several museums in Maryland & Virginia, mainly interpreting Black History in Colonial America. In 2018, she partnered with the Museum of the American Revolution for the Hamilton Was Here exhibit, as well as Meet the Revolution in 2019 where she portrayed Ona Judge. Today she continues to tell the stories of famous and local women through costumed interpretation and living history, and displays her historical costumes on her Instagram.
Sankofa Artisans Guild
The Sankofa Artisans Guild was established in Philadelphia, PA by a diverse group interested in sharing their love of the arts. The guild appreciates and is dedicated to supporting the variety of artistic expressions of the guild members. The guild seeks to maintain a supportive environment where artists can learn and grow. The guild values collaboration with local community groups and art organizations. The Sankofa Artisans Guild is dedicated to provide artists, when possible, opportunities to their craft and to advancing their unique expressions through demonstrations, exhibits, workshops, and special events. The guild embraces, supports and encourages all forms of artistic expression including, but not to, the needle arts: quilting, knitting, embroidery; sculpture, poetry, mosaic art, and curating. The Sankofa Guild is member supported and maintains open membership, irrespective of artistic expression, to artists interested in the realization of the guild’s mission.
